Tell me I can’t…

We all fail, we all have moments where you aren’t selected, you aren’t hired, and you aren’t number one. Failure is good, failure is needed for success.

But what about when you don’t fail? What about that realization that you just found a method that will not work, that you are destined for a different path, or a different avenue to reach your goal?

I never look at failure as a defeat, instead I look at it as a way to prove myself, as a way to show them “You’re going to wish you had picked me.” It is what I strive for, it is a major key that drives me, and will always drive me.

Tell me I can’t, and I will show you I can.

I have dedicated the past two years of my life to a photography project titled “Wild Sonder”.  I have had some “failures” with the project, being told no by a few “artists”, being told I should stick to portraiture or weddings, but when it comes down to it, I don’t let an outsider influence what I do or what I try to run with.

Because, at the end of the day, my success comes down to one key factor, not being afraid to fail. Because failure is a part of life, and especially a part of life for an artist. I will be told no hundreds of times, and that is okay. Because I love my work, as do others, and I will not change because one person doesn’t like it.

So go ahead, fail. Fail greatly. Fail so well, that it turns into a success. If you can dream it, you can make it happen, but you can’t be afraid to fail along the way. I have literally lost count how many failures I have had, but to me, I didn’t fail, I found an avenue that wouldn’t work for my goals.

So fail. Take the no’s, move on and learn from it. My lesson? Don’t waste your time with small grapes, they are most likely to be bitter.
